Position Summary
The Director of Racquets at Diablo Country Club is tasked with leading and innovating the club's racquet sports programs, including tennis, pickleball, and other racquet sports appealing to all levels and ages. This role is central to enhancing the member experience through exceptional service and detailed facility maintenance.

Reporting Relationship: Assistant General Manager
Supervises: Tennis Center Manager, Head Tennis Professional, Jr. Tennis Professional

 

Work Performed

  • Responsible for the day-to-day oversight and operations of the racquets department, which includes but is not limited to staff professionalism, the overall cleanliness, maintenance, and appearance of the grounds, Tennis Center, amenities, and service with a concentrated focus on a high-quality member experience.
  • Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures, implementing and regularly updating policies and procedures.
  • Develops, promotes, and facilitates a comprehensive racquet sports program including tournaments, events, league play, clinics, and private lessons designed to engage members of all ages and skill levels.
  • Works with the Tennis Center Manager to ensure all member service and hospitality details related to racquet events, tournaments, and activities are provided.
  • Works with the Tennis Center Manager to facilitate all event/tournament registration and corresponding billing.
  • Oversees the recruitment, training, and leadership of the racquets staff, focusing on professional development, coaching excellence, and embedding the club's culture of exceptional service. Staff management will emphasize the importance of continuous learning and adherence to the highest industry standards.
  • Acts as a liaison to the Tennis Committee, facilitating communication and collaboration to align racquet sports programs with member expectations and club objectives. Prepares meeting agendas and records meeting minutes.
  • Actively engages with members, handling all inquiries related to racquet sports, ensuring responsive and exceptional member service.
  • Serves as the primary source of communication to members about the tennis programs, including but not limited to the Club website, eblasts, approved social media postings, and text messaging. Is responsible for ensuring that all information is up to date and pertinent. Collaborates with other departments to integrate racquet sports into the club's event calendar, enhancing the member experience through tournaments and social activities.
  • Oversees financial performance of the racquet department, which includes preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, managing within the approved budget, and reporting on variances.
  • Represents the department at club functions and committee meetings, providing feedback and insights to improve racquet sports offerings.

 

Minimum Requirements for Position:

  • A bachelor's degree in Sports Management or related field and extensive management experience in high-caliber racquet sports required.
  • Professional certification in tennis/pickleball with strong playing skills (USTA 4.5+ preferred).
  • At least 3 years in a tennis professional role, with leadership experience desired.
  • Demonstrated skills in financial management, team development, and effective communication, ensuring excellence in member services and program management.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to participate in on-court activities, including demonstrations and playing.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends, holidays, and during special club events, accommodating the club's operational needs.
